Do I Ever Have to Wake Up?

Deep Enough to Dream by Chris Rice

This is one of my favorite songs in the world.  There are so many things that rush through my mind when I hear this song.  It is written as a glimpse into heaven and what it will be like for all who have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior (Romans 10:9-10).  A place where all the beauty we think we see and have now will be totally forgotten and replaced by things that are, by our standards, indescribable.

As a Christian, those are at the forefront of the song, but there are other aspects to it as well...at least in my book.

Taking time to rest, relax and reflect is something that everyone needs to do from time to time.  Granted some people tend to take this to the extreme and just become lazy, but that's not what I'm talking about.  Rushing all the time will eventually wear anyone down or drive them crazy!

Ah, the clumsy fly.  "Don't give up, don't ever give up." to quote Jimmy V.  A simple lesson, but given well by the fly.  Keep at it...no matter how impossible it may seem.  You may never succeed, but, then again, you may.  But I can guarantee that you will fail if you quit trying.  The reason a lot of people give up is because they can't see the other side...the end goal.  They lose hope.  Those are the people who need encouragement and guidance.  Someone to help them see the freedom...the success...the better way of life.  Who among us is ready and willing to offer someone that encouragement?  Keep your eyes open and, if you're a Christian, pray that God will open your eyes to those opportunities.

Imagination...the lost art.  My wife would argue that I don't have much of an imagination, but it's there...it's just not very vocal and a little odd.  We've got some great technology these days...much of it useful.  But the combination of technology and parents who don't make their kids go out and play, draw, read, color, make up games, play cowboys and Indians (oops...that wasn't PC was it?!), etc. are raising generations of people with no imagination, no desire to create anything, and no ability to problem solve.  Sad really...and it's dragging our society down, down, down (think Johnny Cash).  Just look at the "occupy" folks.  'Nuff said.

I don't want to get off on too big of a rabbit chase, but those things pop in my mind during the 3 plus minutes that song lasts.  But what I mostly think about is seeing Jesus and leaving this world and it's troubles behind.  Good times.

Some related Bible passages:

Matthew 22:1-14 - the "wedding clothes" can be translated as without faith in and forgiveness through Christ.
Isaiah Chapter 11 - lambs and lions playing
Revelation Chapters 21 - 22 - heaven - gold street (singular mind you)
