Where were you?

Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning) by Alan Jackson

That's right...back to country.  If you have never listened to the song, please do so.  It stirs so many emotions.

I remember where I was that day.  I worked at an architectural firm in Hattiesburg, MS at the time and a co-worker got a phone call from his wife telling him to turn on the t.v.  We did...and we couldn't believe what we saw.  Disbelief, fear, anger...all the things mentioned in the song is what I felt...seemingly all at once.

Some would say that America was deserving of that day...I've heard those words come out of people's mouths before.  I, for one, say no group of people is deserving of such a horrific act.  There are many groups of people on the face of this earth that I disagree with in every way and wish I didn't have to fight with...socially, politically, religiously, etc.  But I would never dream of killing any of those people, much less thousands at once.  To me that just exposes the pure evil that is in their hearts.

Another hope I had at the time was that the country would galvanize and come together.  That happened, but only for a short time.  Now it seems we have digressed and even become more corrupt, divided and sinful.  Will we ever learn?

From the Holy Bible:

Mark chapter 7 - 20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

Mark chapter 3 - 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

So how do bring people together?

I Corinthians chapter 13 - 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

I John chapter 4 -   8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Sounds a whole lot better than blowing up planes and buildings doesn't it?

  1. I always think of the end of the world when I hear that song. That's what I remember thinking on that day when I, like so many others, were told to turn on the tv and see what was going on. I couldn't believe it, feared for the lives of my boys, and nephews, knowing we would be at 'war' but not being familiar with what 'war' is. This is something I can't even think about because it gets me so down to consider what kind of world my kids, and grandkids may have to live in.
As to what can be done about this evil world we live in....only God can save us. Everyone has to realize that we have no strength or power without God.
Love is an awesome idea...one must know Love before they are able to love. Kind of makes you realize what a huge, neverending task Christians have at hand....more of us, especially myself, should do more in order to spread God's love.
